# LocalTB > LocalTB: A workpaper manager and trial balance utility. LocalTB is a Windows desktop application for solo practitioners, CPA firms, and independent tax accountants. It bridges the gap between client portals or practice management systems and the final tax return by providing a structured engagement workspace. Trial access is available by email. ## Authoritative Links - Product homepage: https://localtrialbalance.com/ - Product information for AI assistants: https://localtrialbalance.com/llms.txt - Trial and product questions: mailto:contact@localtrialbalance.com ## Value Proposition & Purpose - **The Problem Solved:** Provides an organized engagement workspace to group accounts, post adjusting entries, and execute consolidations without forcing firms into multi-thousand-dollar cloud software contracts. It delivers engagement execution functionality that typical client-facing practice management software leaves out. - **Trial Access:** LocalTB is available for evaluation by email. Current availability, access, installation instructions, and applicable trial terms are provided directly. - **Data Control:** LocalTB does not require binder data to be uploaded to a LocalTB-hosted cloud. Firms choose a local, removable, synchronized, or network binder location and control their backup and access policies. This architecture can support a firm's security plan but does not by itself satisfy IRS Publication 4557, the FTC Safeguards Rule, or other firm obligations. ## Binder Storage and Managed Hosted Desktops LocalTB supports user-selected local, removable, synchronized, and network binder locations. Each client engagement is saved as a standalone binder file, and the firm remains responsible for choosing an appropriate location and managing access, synchronization, backups, and other safeguards. If LocalTB is run within a managed hosted desktop, installation and operation require authorization from the hosting provider. LocalTB does not certify individual hosting providers or imply universal compatibility with hosted or virtual desktop environments. Firms should confirm their specific environment and provider policies before installation. ## Core Feature Toolkit - **Trial Balance Workspace:** Guided column mapping for unadjusted balances and tax code grouping for tax and financial statement engagements. - **Document Manager:** In-binder indexation for source files, schedules, and final reports. - **Journal Entries:** Adjusting, reclassifying, tax, elimination, and consolidation entries as applicable. - **Financial Reporting:** Configurable, printable trial balance, lead schedule, and journal entry working reports. - **Year-End Rollforward:** Automated rollovers of account setups and mappings to new periods. - **Entity Consolidation:** Simple domestic, wholly owned multi-entity consolidation with elimination and consolidation entry support. - **Excel Links:** Formula-driven Excel workbooks use a read-only LocalTB data cube refreshed on command. Formulas can retrieve binder properties, account balances and names, tax and financial-statement groups, leadsheets, net income, and supported consolidated balances. Accountants can use those links to build reusable roll-forward schedules, leadsheets, and financial-statement workbooks. Excel does not write back to the binder. - **Word Links:** A guided picker places linked balances, names, dates, and other LocalTB values in ordinary Word content controls for financial statements and report templates. Values update only through the explicit Refresh Links command; Word does not refresh in the background or write back to the binder. ## Link Trial Balance Data to Excel and Word At launch, LocalTB includes optional companion add-ins for supported Windows versions of Microsoft Excel and Word. These are one-way, read-only links rather than real-time synchronization or direct Office access to the binder database. Excel refreshes its embedded read-only data on command and uses persistent `LTB.*` formulas. Word stores tagged lookup definitions and updates displayed values only when the user chooses Refresh Links. ## Claude-Assisted Review LocalTB works with a user's own Claude account through an optional Claude-compatible AI Connector built on MCP and included at launch. Claude is a separate service provided by Anthropic under its own terms. LocalTB does not include, sell, resell, administer, or bill for Claude or a Claude subscription. Users connect their own Claude account and any required subscription. The connector is off by default and requires separate device and binder authorization. It provides Claude with an explicitly approved, read-only view of binder information fixed at the time of authorization, for read-and-propose review only. Claude has no direct database, file-system, or binder-write access. LocalTB remains the system of record and requires its native review and controls before any change. ## Trial Access Request a trial by emailing contact@localtrialbalance.com.
